We went to a Korean place and it was so nostalgic! So strange how Korean food gets me nostalgic about Guinea, hahahaha. Also met another orange kitty in the neighborhood, had a LAN party with some gaming friends, and watched Avengers: Endgame with some visiting friends (no spoilers!).
Fresh Air
My parents and I have been making it more a habit to go out for walks in the neighborhood and I’ve met a new orange kitty that was wandering a yard outside. I don’t know his name so I named it Sherbert. Sherbert is super friendly and a T H I C C boi. Slightly creamier version of Tobi (most cats aren’t as orange as Tobi).
Sherbert lives just a few houses away but that was the first time we had seen him out and about. Then after I finished petting him he walked to a bush and quivered his tail like he was peeing on it. I’m just grateful he didn’t pee on me. Perhaps he was asserting his dominance after smelling Tobi’s scent on me or something. Nobody knows. Cats are weird.
Korean!
My parents brought me to a Korean place in Cary called the Golden Pig to eat some Korean food, and man, it was so good! It definitely brought back some nostalgia from the times we went to Kimchi Café (the Korean place in Guinea). We had chapjae and seafood pajeon, staples to the Korean meal. No mandoo, but we did have galbi! So good.
The seafood pajeon was extra good. It was made with this extra layer of crispiness and the seafood inside was super tender… probably some of the best seafood pajeon I’ve ever eaten!
The chapjae had a lot more black pepper than the one in Guinea, so I wasn’t as big of a fan of it as I was the other chapjae that we ate before. It was still tasty, though!
The galbi was sooooo good. They managed to marinate and grill it without it drying out so it was super flavorful and yet still really juicy. I LOVE MEAT AHHHH.
Irony
So the College of American Pathologists (CAP) is the national certifying body of clinical laboratories in the United States. The last week of April is National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, which is supposed to celebrate the rather invisible profession of medical laboratory scientists.
During my first year at Duke, some photographer guy came into our lab to take some photos of us working with various instruments around the lab for CAP and other Duke promotional material. A few years later:
… CAP uses my photo in their lab week promotional material! Ahahahaha. Which is a little ironic because I’m not (currently) working as a medical laboratory scientist anymore.
It feels like looking at old middle school photos. sigh
LAN party!
A few of my friends that play Guild Wars 2 with me got together to have a little LAN party. We met at my friend Chiwoo’s house (aka Pikachew/Mordefelix/Felix), and he made us this tasty KBBQ cured meat something. Joanne (aka Bonchi) drove over from Greenville and brought her desktop computer with her! DEDICATION. She also made a tasty spaghetti thing. Akash (aka VariableFlame) drove down from Maryland (since he and some of our other friends were going to go watch Avengers: Endgame together later.
Chiwoo moved his desktop from his room to the dining table so we could all game together. I thought about bringing my desktop too since Guild Wars runs pretty poorly on my laptop, but it was a bit too much of a hassle.
We ended up doing a type of dungeon together called a Fractal and they had recently changed some stuff so it was really fun figuring out some of the new mechanics. We died a lot. We also yelled a lot when we finally got it, hahahahaha. Gaming with friends is always a good time.
THE END GAME
Some Atlanta peeps came up to visit my old roommate to watch Avengers: Endgame together!
We went to watch it at Silverspot, this super bougie fancy movie theatre with those plush seats and you can order food to your seat and all that. I was so full from Chiwoo’s KBBQ that I didn’t even really eat any popcorn. Howard bought a large popcorn then got a lot of small bags to split them into and then immediately went back and got a free refill because V A L U E.
The movie was good. I won’t spoil anything about it, but I like how it tied all the other movies in the series together for one big finale!
Discoveries
Tobi doesn’t tolerate the leash very well, but after a LOT of time he let me put it on him and pretend as if I could walk him. He just sat there unmoving the entire time. Considerably less angry, though.
I also found out that my mom keeps a huge stash of tea in our garage freezer. I usually only go in there for ice cream which is on the shelf but the whole door is just filled with tea! It’s actually really impressive.
My mom says she goes through it really quickly despite being the only person who really drinks it in the house. Amazing. I wonder how long this stash would last if we didn’t replenish it.
